About KANA
What KANA does
KANA is a Basque Country company that designs and makes modular furniture for offices and homes. Its catalog focuses on shelving, desks and storage systems that can be configured to fit a space and assembled without tools.
Main products
- Custom shelving and display cabinets for workspaces
- Functional desks designed for collaborative work
- Modular storage systems, including cabinets, partitions, counters and work surfaces
How the system works
The furniture can be configured in three dimensions—height, width and depth—to create pieces in custom sizes. KANA offers a selection of finishes and colors for each project. Its AZ System is designed to assemble without tools or complicated handling.
Origins and approach
KANA was founded in the Basque Country by Iñaki Martínez Peñalba and Javier Uriarte. The name refers to the kana, an old Basque unit of length, and the kana-erdi, the traditional 54-inch trunk circumference used in aizkolaris, or Basque wood-chopping competitions. The company positions its work between custom furniture and mass production, seeking the consistency of a manufactured piece while adapting it to a particular space.
Markets and uses
KANA’s solutions are intended for creative offices as well as homes, with products for work and living spaces.
