About Fundació Dr. Trueta

Social inclusion through recycling and reuse

Fundació Dr. Trueta is a private Catalan nonprofit with a social mission, founded in 1993. Its work has three main areas: waste management and confidential document destruction, employment inclusion for people with mental health conditions, and international development.

Services for businesses

The foundation provides waste-management and confidential document-destruction services for businesses. It is licensed by the Catalan Waste Agency as a waste manager (E-1240.11) and transporter (T-1777). Services include:

  • Pharmaceutical waste management
  • Confidential document destruction
  • Other waste-management services
  • Textile waste management

According to the foundation, it handles 10 tons of medication and 7 tons of confidential documents each month and serves 200 people.

Employment inclusion and volunteering

Fundació Dr. Trueta operates a special employment center and a therapeutic volunteer service. It aims to create job opportunities for people with mental health conditions and a recognized disability rating above 65%, in a setting that puts people ahead of productivity.

Secondhand retail and development work

The foundation runs secondhand stores where it reuses clothing, books, and household items, giving them another life or transforming them for reuse. It has also developed health-related cooperation projects internationally and locally.
