About Cooperativa de Gandesa
Wine and olive oil from Gandesa
Cooperativa de Gandesa is a wine cooperative with more than a century of activity in Gandesa, in Catalonia’s Terra Alta area. Its members grow grapes and olives; some of their older vines are more than 50 years old and are harvested by hand.

The range includes red, white, and rosé wines, cava, vermouth, bulk wine, sweets, vinegar, and olive oil, as well as packs and bottles. Its labels include:

Among its featured wines are Puresa Samsó, made entirely from old-vine Carignan and aged for 12 months in French oak followed by two years in bottle, and Puresa Macabeu. Messerols is an orange wine made entirely from white Garnacha using a century-old Terra Alta technique.
Terra Alta designation of origin
Its wines carry the Terra Alta designation of origin, recognized in 1972. The wine area lies between the Ebro River and the Matarranya lands, with a Mediterranean climate influenced by continental conditions and a long tradition of white-wine production.
The building and winery visits
The cooperative occupies a 1919 Modernist building designed by Cèsar Martinell, a student of Antoni Gaudí and Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Considered one of the early “cathedrals of wine,” it is listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest and was chosen as one of Catalonia’s Seven Wonders in 2007. The cooperative offers winery visits and activities involving food, sport, nature, art, and historic routes.
Recognition
Its wines have won awards in Spanish and international competitions, including two silver medals at the 2024 Vinari Awards.
