Agroecological food buying in El Vendrell

Les Garrofes del Vendrell is an agroecological food-buying group based in El Vendrell, Catalonia. It is a self-managed organization that helps members purchase organic and locally sourced products in keeping with social and solidarity economy principles. The group is part of the Camp de Tarragona network of consumer groups and cooperatives, which includes more than 160 initiatives across Catalonia, 11 of them in this region.

Activities and services

The group organizes events on agroecology and cooperatives, including annual sessions at El Vendrell’s Terra Baixa Public Library. These events are free and open to anyone interested. It also takes part in responsible-consumption campaigns such as #hofemagroecològic and social and solidarity economy initiatives such as Install Party d'alternatives, in partnership with CoopCamp.

Networks and partnerships

Les Garrofes belongs to La Bajoca, a network of five Camp de Tarragona food-buying groups with 174 members and 68 suppliers. The network operates a shared online store and delivery service that distributes baskets in all five towns. Members can place combined orders for common products and goods from local suppliers.
