Blog topics
The site covers the history and current role of guachinches—traditional Canarian establishments that serve their own wine and home-cooked food—as well as recipes and local customs. A 2018 post traces guachinches to the 1950s and discusses the regulations that govern them today.
Craft section: Reciclando Emociones
The blog announces a new section called “Reciclando Emociones,” featuring the author’s work with recycled wood on El Hierro. The pieces use as many as twelve types of wood: eleven from the island—pine, cedar, heather, acacia, juniper, fig, avocado, beech, orange, mulberry, and Canary Island pine—and a twelfth, red Congo wood reclaimed from ships arriving at the port of La Restinga. The pieces are finished with linseed oil for a rustic look.
One featured work was inspired by La Lucha, a film by director José Alayón. Made from four types of recycled wood, it was presented on February 22 at the La Peña Conference and Auditorium Hall on El Hierro.
