Machine Tools with Roots in Durango

CMI Durango is a machine-tool manufacturer with more than 80 years of history, specializing in the design and production of large-format machining equipment. Its story began in 1939, when José Estancona started making small machine tools in a workshop on Kalebarria Street in Durango, Bizkaia. In 1948, he founded DYE (Duñaiturria y Estancona, S.A.), which became a reference in the Basque machine-tool industry and moved to its current facility at 2 Zeharmendieta Street in Durango. After one of its subsidiaries stopped selling products under the DYE brand, CMI Aeronáutica, S.L. emerged in Seville as a family-owned aircraft-maintenance company.

Services

CMI offers customer assistance throughout the working life of its equipment, as well as repair and maintenance for CMI and DYE machines and other machine tools. It has in-house capacity to machine workpieces up to 13,000 × 3,840 millimeters. CMI Digital provides production monitoring and data analysis.

Its solutions serve the automotive, rail, aerospace, wind, energy, defense, machining, shipbuilding, and capital-equipment industries. Notable past projects include a bridge mill built to machine the wings of the Boeing 747.
