History
CMI Durango traces its history to 1939, when José Estancona began making small machine tools in a workshop on Kalebarria Street in Durango. In 1948, DYE (Duñaiturria y Estancona, S.A.) was founded and moved to Zeharmendienta 2 in Durango, Bizkaia, the present CMI Durango site. DYE specialized in large equipment such as bridge mills and vertical lathes and built a bridge mill for machining the wings of the Boeing 747. Sales under the DYE brand ended in 1993. CMI Aeronáutica, S.L., a family-founded aircraft-maintenance company, was then formed from a Seville subsidiary. CMI Durango has continued operating in the machine-tool industry.
