Support through aging and disability

Matia Fundazioa is a health and social care foundation based in Donostia-San Sebastián, in Gipuzkoa, Basque Country. It supports people as they age and provides care for people with disabilities. Its work combines care facilities and services with research and professional training.

Care centers and services

The organization operates a network that includes residential care facilities, day centers, Matia Hospital, which specializes in geriatrics, rehabilitation centers, supported apartments, a health and social care unit, centers for people with disabilities (Petra Lekuona), and Lugaritz, a lifelong-housing project.

Care services include senior living, adult day services, rehabilitation and physical therapy—including lymphatic drainage, back-care classes, and prenatal and postpartum physical therapy—home care, in-home assessments and follow-up, residential care for people with disabilities, geriatrician visits, and speech therapy. Services for businesses include catering through Sigeca, psychosocial support, and pharmacy services with medication counseling.

Education, expertise, and additional support

The foundation provides teaching and professional training and develops research and expertise. It also has a user-support service (SAPU), daytime support, and an ethics committee. Matia Orienta is a free service that answers questions and offers guidance on situations involving dependency and care needs.
