ZIV
ZIV designs and manufactures in-house equipment and automation systems for high-, medium-, and low-voltage power grids, serving utilities, EPCs, and system integrators.
About ZIV
Automation technology for power grids
ZIV develops its own technology for automation of high-, medium-, and low-voltage power grids (HV, MV, and LV). Its portfolio includes substation automation, high-voltage communications, distribution automation, and metering and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). The company develops the technology it sells in-house.
Products and solutions
- Substation automation systems for digital transmission and distribution.
- High-voltage communications, including telecommunications systems, networks, sensors, and couplers.
- Distribution automation, including remote terminal units (RTUs), protection and low-voltage monitoring, intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), and systems.
- Interoperable, standards-based metering and AMI solutions.
- The Bidecont Meter Dual Stack, a ZIV-developed single- and three-phase meter certified for PRIME 1.3 and 1.4.
- The DBF distributed protection relay for busbar protection, supporting up to four busbars and 20 bays, 20-millisecond trip time, an IEC 61850 process bus, PRP and HSR redundancy, and PTP GMC without GPS synchronization.
- ZIV Central: remote management to monitor, maintain, and update installed grid equipment without an on-site visit.
- ZIV TwinGrid: a grid-restoration and distributed energy resource integration solution using transient analysis and coordination of distributed resources.
Engineering, training, and support
- Engineering services: design, installation, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and commissioning.
- Advanced engineering: custom development, validation testing, and system modeling with RTDS.
- Training through ZIV University, including scheduled classes, customized programs, and webinars.
- Revamping: modernization of existing facilities with reduced capital spending by reusing infrastructure.
- After-sales service: remote and on-site technical support and specialized repairs for out-of-warranty equipment.
ZIV University courses
ZIV University offers structured courses, customized programs, and interactive webinars for power-system professionals. Its 2026 schedule includes Substation Protection and Control (September 21–25, five days/36 hours, in Spanish), Hands-on Protection Relay Training (September 28–October 2, five days/36 hours, in Spanish), and Migration to PRIME 1.4 (October 6–8, three days/17 hours, in Spanish). On-demand training is planned with the client and can take place at ZIV, at the client’s facility, or online.
Smart-grid project in Greece
A consortium formed by ZIV and Itron won HEDNO’s smart-grid deployment contract in Greece. The project covers nearly one million devices and the related data-collection and management systems. The initial contract term is three years, with an option to extend for five more, as part of HEDNO’s grid modernization and digitalization strategy.
