Pescanova Blue

The program has five principles: sustainable sourcing, labor responsibility, product excellence, stronger communities, and ethical conduct. The company states goals for each:

  • Demonstrate a sustainable origin for 100% of the species it catches, farms, or buys.
  • Provide legal, fair, and decent employment for 100% of its workforce, with plans covering talent, diversity, occupational safety, and health.
  • Show a health benefit in 100% of Pescanova-branded products, such as omega-3 EPA and DHA, protein, vitamins, or minerals, while minimizing saturated fat, sugar, and salt.
  • Benefit all communities where it operates through knowledge transfer, jobs, investment, or social projects.
  • Comply fully with applicable law and its corporate-governance and compliance rules.

How sustainability is assessed

The group uses four types of evidence to assess the sustainability of seafood ingredients: independent audit certificates recognized by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI); compliance with its own Sustainable Fishing Standard; fishery or aquaculture improvement projects (FIP/AIP); and performance criteria from the scientific FishSource platform.
