A wine cooperative in Capçanes

Celler de Capçanes is a cooperative winery in Capçanes, in Tarragona's Priorat/Montsant area. A small group of growers founded it in 1933. Initially, they sold bulk wine and grapes to other producers; over time, the cooperative moved into making its own premium wines for international markets.

• Wines: young and fruit-forward wines, wood-aged wines, the Taller de Terroirs line, single-plot wines, old-vine wines, sweet wines, kosher wines, lower-alcohol wines, and a series inspired by cave paintings.

• House wine under the DO Catalunya designation, also sold in bag-in-box packaging.

Vineyards and soils

The vineyards occupy slopes and terraces around Capçanes, sheltered by the Serra de Llaberia. The winery points to the diversity of its soils—Panal, Calissa, Argila, and Llicorella—as a defining influence on its wines.

Recognition

The winery reports scores and awards from competitions and guides including the Weinwirtschaft Co-op Contest, Guía Peñín, Tim Atkin, Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge, Vinous, Verema, Hudin, and Barcelona Wine Week. Among the results it cites are 95 Guía Peñín points for Cabrida and the inclusion of Peraj Ha'abib 2023 in Hudin's 2025 Top 100. Its kosher wines also reach international markets.
