Bernal Alimentación, S.L., known as Aceitunas Bernal, is a Spanish family business that has made and distributed olives and pickles for more than a century. The Bernal family’s fourth generation now leads a company that grew from door-to-door sales into export markets and large-scale retail supply.

How the business developed

José Bernal, the son of farmers, founded the business in 1900 and began by growing capers. The second generation specialized in itinerant sales in 1930. New facilities enabled national sales in 1960. In 1990, the fourth generation updated the premises, image, and brand and began exporting and supplying major retailers. Facilities expanded in 2014, when the company established sales in the United States. Participation in ANUGA, SIAL, Salón Gourmets, and Fancy Food in 2018 supported new products and packaging.

Facilities

The production plant covers more than 25,000 square meters and has modern machinery. The company says it can adapt packaging formats and presentations to customers’ requirements.

Export markets and recognition

Aceitunas Bernal has exhibited at international trade shows including Anuga in Germany and Fancy Food in New York, and exports to the United States. It received the 2019 COAC Commercial Excellence Award.
