About Consejo Local de Hermandades y Cofradías de Cádiz
What the council is
The Consejo Local de Hermandades y Cofradías de Cádiz brings together and coordinates the city’s Catholic brotherhoods and confraternities. A recipient of the City of Cádiz Gold Medal, it publishes information about Cádiz’s cofrade traditions and helps organise Holy Week and other religious observances.
Activity and recognition
Cádiz Holy Week holds Spain’s designation of Festival of National Tourist Interest. The source records that the declaration was signed by tourism secretary Fernando Valdés after the city council’s application was found to satisfy Order ICT/851/2019.
The council publishes annual posters for Holy Week, Corpus Christi, Glorias and the Stations of the Cross, as well as proclamations, its Getsemaní magazine and brotherhood news. It also manages online sales of chairs and boxes along the official Holy Week route, including season-ticket renewal periods and rules for allocation and use.
Community work
The organization also reports social programs. One website entry records the distribution of 73 food bags to disadvantaged residents of Cádiz on 22 August; the year and present continuity of the program should be checked in the original announcement.
