Contemporary music and poetry in Mallorca
Fundació ACA (Àrea de Creació Acústica) is a private cultural foundation created in 1978 and officially recognized in 1985. Based in Búger, Mallorca, it also has administrative offices at Can Cirera Prim in sa Pobla.
Areas of work
Its programs span contemporary music, poetry, musicology, historic organs, visual arts, gastronomy, and folklore. Activities include:
- Encuentro Internacional de Compositores: Established in 1980, the foundation describes it as Spain’s second-oldest event of its kind. Held in the final quarter of the year, it uses venues including Teatre Principal, the foundation’s Sala del Piano, auditoriums, and churches. Participants have included composers Josep Maria Mestres-Quadreny, Xavier Carbonell, Llorenç Barber, Benet Casablancas, and Eduardo Polonio, and conductors Claudio Zulian, Maties Far, Jordi Alomar, and Jean-Pierre Dupuy.
- Aula Poètica: Includes Solstici d’Estiu, a young-poets program founded in 1995 and coordinated by Antoni Gost that publishes and records work by Catalan-language poets under 30; Veu de Poeta, which features established voices; and Crestatx Poètic, an interdisciplinary gathering held at the Crestatx oratory in sa Pobla since 2001.
- Amics de l’Orgue: Organizes a symposium on historic organs and musical studies and the Setmana Internacional de l’Orgue Antoni Martorell at the Basilica of Sant Francesc.
- Archives and residencies: Provides access to sound recordings, sheet music, a library, the ACA-Parets archive, and artist residencies.
