Fundació Bellaire

Specialized education and support for autistic students

Fundació Bellaire operates Escola i Centre Terapèutic Bellaire, a specialized center for the education and treatment of children and teenagers diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Its board includes professionals from mainstream and special education and psychology, while a professional leadership team manages day-to-day operations.

History and recognition

Escola Bellaire began in 1977 as an association of education and psychology professionals called GEPI, formed to study and treat autism and childhood psychosis. In 1983, it signed an agreement with Catalonia's Department of Education. In 1990, a grant from the Department of Social Welfare made it possible to acquire the property where the school is located. In 1995, it signed an agreement with CATSALUT, and Escola Bellaire was recognized as a specialized autism center. Fundació Bellaire was established on July 7, 2009, through a partnership between Fundació Collserola and GEPI. New facilities covering 1,033 square meters opened for the school's exclusive use during the 2014–15 school year.

Educational and therapeutic approach

The foundation establishes and supports nonprofit institutions and services focused on research, education, and treatment for autistic people. Its model brings together educational, therapeutic, and social support rather than treating each intervention as a separate service. The spaces, activities, and staff all contribute to the educational environment. The foundation also receives grants from Catalonia's departments of education and health.
