Spanish-language publishing and distribution

Grupo Océano is a publisher and distributor of Spanish-language content with more than 60 years of history. Its catalog includes reference works, children's and young adult books, materials for educators, professional training resources, and titles across a range of subjects and genres. The group’s general office is in Barcelona, and it operates in multiple Spanish-speaking countries as well as Portugal, Brazil, and the United States.

History and publishing imprints

The group began in 1959 with the founding of Ediciones Danae by Josep Lluís Monreal (Gandesa, Tarragona, 1931–Barcelona, 2020). He served as president of Spain’s Publishers Association from 1999 to 2000 and received the Spanish government’s Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts in 2006. Ediciones Océano was founded in 1972, and Grupo Océano was formally established in 1978. Over the years, the group added imprints including Circe (1988), Océano Ámbar (1999), Océano Digital (2002), Océano Idiomas (2007), Océano Travesía (2008), and Gran Travesía (2014). It refreshed its corporate identity in 2024.

The group currently has eight in-house publishing imprints: Océano, Circe, Travesía, Exprés, Gran Travesía, Historias Gráficas, Hotel de las Letras, and Ámbar. It also distributes more than 60 other publishers’ catalogs throughout Latin America.
