Orto-k Barcelona

Orthokeratology in Barcelona

Orto-k Barcelona is a clinical optometry center specializing in orthokeratology, a technique that uses custom rigid gas-permeable contact lenses worn overnight to temporarily reshape the cornea and correct refractive errors without surgery. The treatment is reversible: when lens wear stops, the cornea returns to its original shape.

Optometrist and team

The center is led by Mireia Campos, an optometrist specializing in clinical contact lenses. According to the website, Campos works in the Optometry and Refraction Department at IMO (Institute of Ocular Microsurgery) and has postgraduate and master's-level training in clinical contact lenses. The site cites more than eight years of experience and more than 75 patients treated.

Services and treatment range

• Correction of myopia up to 6 diopters.
• Correction of astigmatism up to 4 diopters.
• Correction of hyperopia up to 3 diopters.
• Initial corneal topography to assess corneal health and shape.
• Custom lens design for each patient.
• Follow-up throughout the fitting process.

The website says the treatment may be especially suitable for children to help control myopia progression; athletes, including people who participate in water sports; people with dry eyes; and candidates for public-sector exams who need to meet visual-acuity requirements without corrective lenses. The listed visual requirements are 0.6 for Spain's National Police, 0.7 for the Civil Guard, 0.4 for the Mossos d'Esquadra, 0.6 for the Ertzaintza, and 1.0 in one eye and 0.8 in the other for the Army.

Lenses used

The center says it uses CRT lenses, which it describes as approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
