About Estèvia Poblenou
Responsible food shopping in Poblenou
Estèvia Poblenou is a responsible-consumption and organic-food association based in Barcelona’s Poblenou neighborhood, in the Sant Martí district. It began in late 2010, building on the experience of Cydonia, the neighborhood’s first consumer cooperative, and is made up of local residents.
How it works
The association distributes products to members through direct relationships with suppliers, without intermediaries. Its purchasing criteria favor organic, seasonal products free from genetically modified seeds, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers. It prioritizes local sourcing, avoids excess packaging and industrial processing, and says it also considers producers’ working conditions.
Neighborhood activities
Alongside food distribution, the association takes part in neighborhood activities and publishes educational content. Its blog has listed talks on food sovereignty and responsible consumption, courses such as a four-session aromatherapy class taught by a nurse from Hospital del Mar for €15, a seasonal food calendar, and neighborhood events including the Fira i Dinar Popular de Consum Ecològic i Responsable del Poblenou and Festes de Maig.
The blog offers a subscription form for alerts when new posts are published.
