Improving access to health and well-being
Fundación Probitas is a Barcelona-based nonprofit working to improve access to health care, well-being, and equal opportunity for vulnerable communities. Its work reaches people both close to home and in remote, under-resourced areas in other countries.
Programs in Spain
In Spain, the foundation runs social and health programs for children and teenagers facing vulnerability. Its work includes:
- Health education: helping children build healthy habits and skills and access balanced nutrition.
- Specialized health care: connecting minors at risk of social exclusion with specialized medical resources and services.
- Training and research: supporting professionals who work with children and conducting studies aimed at improving young people's physical and mental health.
International programs
The foundation's international development work aims to improve living conditions and health-care access in remote, resource-limited communities. Its areas of work include laboratories, neglected tropical diseases, and research, development, and innovation. One example is its health-care work along the Santiago and Cayapas rivers in Ecuador.
Training and partnerships
Campus Probitas is the foundation's online learning platform. Its courses include “Foundations of Emotional Well-Being” and a course on relationships and sexuality education endorsed by the UNESCO Chair in Education and Technology for Social Change. The foundation is also a member of FEDAIA, a federation of more than 100 Catalan social-service organizations focused on children and teenagers.
Publications and transparency
The foundation publishes annual reports, guides, and educational materials. Its publications include guides to emotional well-being and mental health for teens and young adults, produced with Salut Mental Catalunya and offering recommendations for families and professionals. The organization has a board of trustees and makes information about its work and transparency publicly available.
