About AIXEC S.C.C.L

A community-based approach to mental health

Aixec S.C.C.L. is a nonprofit cooperative founded in Barcelona in 2002. It began with a group of professionals from different fields who wanted to develop a different approach to supporting people experiencing mental health challenges.

Community, culture, and connection

Aixec supports people experiencing psychological distress and approaches mental health through community involvement. Its work includes activities and gathering groups centered on culture, art, recreation, and physical activity. These are open spaces intended to promote mental health and build connections with the surrounding community.

The cooperative describes its support as nonhierarchical and horizontal. Its interdisciplinary, dialog-based approach also draws on the lived experience of the people it supports.
