About AFINS - Associació de Famílies d'Infants Superdotats

A family-led resource for gifted children

AFINS is a Barcelona-based association for families of children with high abilities, including giftedness and specific talents. It describes itself as an independent nonprofit governed by Catalonia’s Associations Act 7/1997. The organization grew out of a group of families who wanted to learn more about high abilities and help their children develop in a balanced way.

Activities for children and parents

  • Esplai: The association’s central activity is an after-school and leisure program with workshops designed by its in-house advisers and instructors, who work directly with children. It follows Catalonia’s tradition of education through free-time activities.
  • Parent education: A place for families to learn and support one another.
  • Institutional outreach: AFINS maintains relationships with public agencies, media outlets, and academic professionals.
  • Special events: The association also offers a range of cultural and recreational activities.

Building understanding and support

AFINS aims to give children and their siblings a place to connect, while allowing parents to share experiences and build a resource library. It also gathers psychological and educational information about high abilities, encourages public agencies to address these children’s special educational needs, and works to improve public understanding of giftedness from both human and academic perspectives.

Resources and contact

AFINS’s website has a frequently asked questions section prepared by its Working Group on Giftedness and High Abilities, with guides for teachers and families. The association can be reached at info@afins.org and maintains a Facebook page.
