About JEF Catalunya

European debate and youth participation

JEF Catalunya is a pro-European youth organization and part of JEF (Young European Federalists). It promotes discussion and youth participation in issues related to the European Union, European federalism, and youth politics. The organization is active in Catalonia and has ties to other JEF sections in Spain and Europe.

Eurotast and other activities

Among its signature initiatives are Eurotast gatherings, which pair food from different European countries with discussions of current EU affairs. These events often include experts and academics. In January 2015, a Eurotast focused on France featured Mariona Ferrer, a professor at Pompeu Fabra University, in a discussion about the European Commission's Structured Dialogue and youth political participation. At an October 2014 Eurotast, CIDOB researcher Elena Sánchez Montijano discussed immigration and tolerance in Europe.

Beyond Eurotast, the organization has promoted campaigns such as #Decide What Europe You Want and #EP2014, organized international seminars in Finland and Ventotene, and taken part in the Debate on the Future of Europe. It also created the university section SAEU-EU.

History and structure

JEF Catalunya marked its 35th anniversary in 2014, reflecting its established place in Catalonia's pro-European movement. It is organized as a youth association, with sections in several Spanish autonomous communities, including Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla–La Mancha, the Valencian Community, Galicia, and Madrid. It also maintains relationships with JEF Europe and other national sections.
