Women's rights and social action

Fundació Surt is a private social-action organization founded in Barcelona in 1993. It works to advance women's economic, social, and cultural rights and end discrimination based on sex and gender. Its work extends across Catalonia.

Areas of work

• Support for survivors of gender-based violence: assistance tailored to each woman's circumstances, with additional support for immigrant women.
• Employment, training, and entrepreneurship: programs to strengthen women's employment prospects and support access to work, along with partnerships with businesses to create decent jobs.
• Inclusion and community action: support for women living in poverty to strengthen independence and quality of life.
• Consulting: gender-perspective training delivered by the foundation's consulting team.
• Research, innovation, and advocacy: local and international social research and methodological innovation projects informed by a gender perspective.

Programs and reach

The foundation reports that its programs and services have served 5,135 people, its consulting team has trained 159 professionals in gender perspectives, its community programs have included 12,262 participants, and it has carried out 12 social research and methodological innovation projects.

Recognition

Fundació Surt has received the President Macià Labor Award for its work advancing equal opportunity in the workplace; an honorary mention from the Government of Catalonia on Catalonia's Justice Day in 2016; the Solidarity Award from the Catalan Institute for Human Rights in 2009; and the Lluís Companys Memorial in the group category from Fundació Josep Irla in 2017.

Ways to participate

The foundation offers ways to get involved through volunteering, volunteer partnerships with businesses, and its job board. It also publishes resources, news, and Devreporter magazine.
