Supporting work-integration enterprises

FEICAT represents and supports work-integration social enterprises in Catalonia. It brings together more than 40 member companies, based on attendance recorded at its general meeting at Hub Social Barcelona. The federation works to raise the profile of and strengthen the sector in Catalonia.

What is a work-integration social enterprise?

According to FEICAT, a work-integration enterprise provides jobs and tailored support through a temporary pathway for people experiencing or at risk of social exclusion. These enterprises are governed by Law 27/2002 and must be listed in the administrative registry of the Government of Catalonia's Department of Business and Labor.

Such enterprises fund most of their work through sales of products and services and meet the same tax obligations as other companies. About 15% of their revenue comes from public grants. They are nonprofit and reinvest their profits in their work, so increased revenue can support more people in employment pathways.

Requirements for starting an enterprise

FEICAT offers free, no-obligation advice to people interested in setting up a work-integration enterprise. The company must be majority-owned by social-purpose organizations, employ a workforce in which 30% to 70% of staff are in work-integration pathways, and allocate at least 80% of profits to improving its integration work.

Ways to collaborate

FEICAT outlines ways for public agencies, individuals, and private businesses to support the sector. Public agencies can direct part of their procurement to work-integration enterprises, add social clauses to bids, share information about the enterprises' work, and train public administrators. Individuals and companies can buy their products and services or hire people who have completed employment pathways.
