About Fundació Sandra Salgado Montells
Education access for young people
Fundació Sandra Salgado Montells is a private nonprofit established in Barcelona on April 9, 2019, by a public deed signed before notary Valero Soler Marti-Javato (protocol No. 878). It is registered with the Government of Catalonia’s Foundations Registry under No. 3132 and was established without a fixed end date.
The foundation’s purpose is to help people under 27 who are at risk of social exclusion access education. It views academic training as an important tool for social inclusion and better opportunities.
How the program works
The foundation begins by partnering with associations, foundations, and institutions that work with young people at risk of social exclusion and cannot fund their education beyond compulsory secondary school (ESO).
The process then includes:
- Identifying young people who need financial help to continue their education, in partnership with community organizations.
- Reviewing each case individually, taking into account the person’s circumstances and motivation.
- Providing ongoing support through the student’s education and transition into adulthood.
Founding story
The foundation was created by José Salgado de la Fuente and Montserrat Montells Jordà, parents of Sandra Salgado Montells, who died at age 27. Sandra was born in Barcelona in 1990. According to the foundation, she was committed throughout school and college to helping people who struggled academically. Her parents decided to continue that work by providing scholarships to young people who cannot afford their education.
