About ECOM - Federació d'Entitats amb Discapacitat Física i Orgànica de Catalunya

Disability rights and equal opportunity

ECOM is a federation of organizations representing people with physical and organic disabilities in Catalonia. With 55 years of history, it describes itself as a grassroots association movement that defends the rights of this community and promotes equal opportunity. Its headquarters are at Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes 562, main floor, suite 2A, 08011 Barcelona.

Services

The federation works across several areas:

  • Services for individuals: Advice and information, personal assistance, employment inclusion, school inclusion, and support for participation in sports.
  • Services for families: Guidance, information and resources, and family training.
  • Services for businesses and organizations: Sharing job openings, supporting recruitment, advising on and managing alternative compliance measures, specialized training, awareness events, and corporate volunteering.
  • Services for schools: Teacher training, awareness activities, and educational resources.
  • Services for sports centers: Training professionals to serve people with diverse needs.

Advocacy and public policy

ECOM tracks rights violations through its annual RADAR ECOM report, which examines the situation of people with physical and organic disabilities in Catalonia. It also develops policy positions, proposals, and manifestos, and runs public awareness campaigns. One example is #DesigualtatPlus, focused on discrimination faced by women with disabilities.

Governance

The federation is made up of member organizations and has a board of directors. In 2026, it renewed its board for the 2026–2030 term, with Bibiana Bendicho as president. That year, ECOM also assumed the presidency of COCARMI, the Catalan Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities.

Recognition and transparency

ECOM received the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2011 and holds an LOPD-LSSICE data-protection compliance seal. It publishes a transparency policy and maintains an ethics channel.
