About Diomcoop

A Cooperative Built Around Social Inclusion

Diomcoop is a social-purpose cooperative based in Barcelona, established on March 7, 2017, by 15 people of sub-Saharan African origin, many of whom had previously sold goods on the street without authorization. Barcelona City Council and BCNActiva launched the project to provide a sustainable, long-term response to the social and employment inclusion needs of immigrants experiencing vulnerability through the social and solidarity economy.

Services and Activities

The cooperative works in three main areas:

  • Food: Cooking and catering, including a community kitchen initiative with Nutrició Sense Fronteres.
  • Fashion and sewing: Making and selling textile products under the Diambaar brand.
  • Community education: Outreach activities and projects such as Fronteres Invisibles and informational “capsules.”

Organization

Diomcoop is organized around a members' assembly and a governing council, with working committees for Fashion and Sewing, Food, Logistics, Cohesion and Community, and Administration. Decisions are made democratically, and information is shared across the cooperative.
