About Hort de la Font Trobada
A community garden in Poble Sec
Hort de la Font Trobada is a community garden managed by a neighborhood gardeners’ association in Barcelona’s Poble Sec neighborhood.
Plots and how they are assigned
The association manages garden plots assigned to neighborhood residents. Access is through waiting lists, which open periodically, and lotteries when new plots become available. Applicants must read and accept the garden’s internal rules.
The garden expanded with a new area a short distance uphill from the existing site, along the path toward Marcelino’s kiosk. In February 2025, a lottery was held to assign 70 plots in the expanded area. The event was open to the neighborhood and took place at the Sortidor Civic Center Auditorium.
Eligibility and process
- Only people who live in Poble Sec may apply.
- Each household may have one plot, so only one application is accepted per address.
- Waiting lists have a limited number of places (for example, 15 applicants) and close quickly once full.
- The association maintains separate waiting lists for the existing garden and the new garden.
Gardening resources and activities
Along with managing plots, the association shares gardening knowledge. Its blog offers practical advice, including a guide to collecting and storing vegetable seeds from lettuce, endive, cabbage, chard, spinach, onions, calçots, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes. The association also organizes activities and has working committees.
