Support for people with diabetes in Catalonia

Associació de Diabetis de Catalunya (ADC) is a nonprofit founded in 1993 through the merger of local chapters across Catalonia. It serves the region's more than 600,000 people with diabetes and their families.

What the association does

ADC works to protect and improve the quality of life of people with diabetes and their families, providing information to help patients make decisions about managing the condition. It advocates for their rights with government agencies, promotes access to appropriate supplies and technology, and supports research aimed at finding a cure.

Services and activities

• Peer-support groups where people with diabetes can share experiences and ask questions.
• Adapted exercise, including gentle activities for older adults with type 2 diabetes and mobility and strength sessions in Girona.
• Training at schools and community organizations.

• Publications, including the sixth edition of Paraules que Curen and informational guides, including one for older adults with diabetes.
• Healthy menus created by a dietitian-nutritionist specializing in diabetes.

Leadership and organization

The board is led by president Francesc Fernàndez, with Rafael Valle as vice president, César García as treasurer, and Rosa Vert as secretary. Central services include management, accounting, communications, and patient support. ADC is organized into regional chapters whose service hours may change during the summer.
