A Meeting Place for Expectant Mothers and Parents

Asociación MARA is a Barcelona-based maternity support organization founded around 2012. It offers a gathering place for expectant mothers and mothers with babies up to one year old to share information and parenting experiences. The association describes itself as a welcoming space free of judgment and prejudice.

Activities and Services

The association organizes regular meetups and practical workshops. Its services include:

• MARA breakfasts: gatherings where mothers and fathers can share their experiences of parenthood over breakfast.
• Guidance on ergonomic baby carriers, breastfeeding, infant sleep, cloth diapers, and introducing solid foods.
• A lending library of books on breastfeeding, parenting, and birth preparation.
• Loaner ergonomic baby carriers.
• Talks and workshops, including baby-carrier workshops and a showcase of babywearing coats.

Location and Contact

MARA has held activities at different locations in Barcelona. It previously met at Espai Valaina, 102 Avinguda del Paral·lel, and currently meets at Centre Cívic El Sortidor in Poble-sec, 12 Plaça del Sortidor. Meetups are held Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
