About Fundació Barcelona Olímpica
Barcelona ’92, told through sport and the city
Created in 1993, the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica set out to preserve and explain what the 1992 Games meant for the city and for sport. Its best-known public address is the Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic and Sports Museum on Montjuïc, opened in 2007 beside the Olympic Stadium. The museum turns that legacy into a visit rather than a timeline alone, moving from Olympic history to the many disciplines that make up contemporary sport.
Interactive stations let visitors test their speed, explore cycling aerodynamics, and compare the demands of different events, while the permanent displays trace the Olympic host cities and bring together sports objects and the Samaranch collection. The foundation also supports research, oral-history projects, film programming, and public discussions about the values and future of sport. It is a natural addition to time spent around Montjuïc’s Olympic venues, especially for visitors who want context for the buildings outside.
