About Museu Marítim de Barcelona

Barcelona’s maritime past inside the Royal Shipyards

The Museu Marítim occupies the Drassanes Reials, the Royal Shipyards whose history is closely tied to Barcelona’s rise as a Mediterranean power. The building makes that connection tangible: visitors move through vast vaulted halls that once served shipbuilding and naval purposes, now filled with exhibitions about the sea, trade, and the people who worked along the coast.

One of the museum’s central stories follows the galleys that carried the Crown of Aragon’s ambitions across the Mediterranean between the 13th and 15th centuries. Models, objects, interactive displays, and a replica of the Royal Galley bring that maritime world into view. The museum also connects its galleries to the city through historic vessels, archives, a specialized library, and programs for families and schools.
