History and Development

Founder Xavier Aragó Turón, who earned a pharmacy degree in 1904, began making sutures in the back room of his pharmacy on Ronda de Sant Pere in Barcelona. The company describes itself as the oldest in Spain in this specialty. In 1970, José M.ª Aragó installed the first gamma-ray sterilization unit. A new suture factory with updated technology was built in 1998. The company marked its centennial in 2014.
