A fine arts academy in Barcelona

Reial Acadèmia de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi (RACBA) is a public-law institution based in Barcelona. Its mission is to conduct, strengthen, and share research into the arts in Catalonia. It serves as an adviser to public agencies and official arts organizations.

Collection and archive

The academy preserves and expands a collection of painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, and photography. Its holdings exceed 1,000 works, including pieces by Lluís Rigalt i Farriols, Vicenç Genovart i Alsina, Federico de Madrazo y Kuntz, Josep Mirabent i Gatell, and Antoni Caba i Casamitjana. Researchers can also consult its library and documentary archive.

Activities

RACBA regularly holds concerts, lectures, competitions, and exhibitions. These include the Clàssica a la Reial Acadèmia concert series and the international Ynglada-Guillot drawing competition, organized with the Fundació Ynglada-Guillot, Fundació Vila Casas, and Cercle Artístic, along with exhibitions arising from that contest. The academy also publishes induction speeches, bulletins, catalogs, and yearbooks.

Visiting

The academy is on the second floor of Casa Llotja at Passeig d'Isabel II 1 in Barcelona. Listed visiting hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; it closes in August. Admission is €5 for adults, €3 for groups of up to 10 people, and free for children under 12. A virtual visit is available through its website.
