A cultural association in Barcelona's El Clot neighborhood

Orfeó Martinenc brings together cultural and community groups in El Clot. Its purpose is to promote and share culture and civic participation through music, performing arts, social activities, and popular traditions.

Groups and activities

  • Orfeó Martinenc: An adult choir formed in El Clot in 1910 from the Escola Coral Martinenca.
  • Els Petits Martinencs: A long-running children's choir.
  • Music School: Groups using different instruments and styles, from classical to jazz, with an emphasis on performing together.
  • Cloteatre: Classical and contemporary theater, drama, comedy, musicals, and zarzuela.
  • Benéfica i Social: Began in 1941, after the Spanish Civil War, to help people and families in need in the neighborhood.
  • Diables del Clot: Founded in 1977; performs correfocs, or fire parades, and other fire shows locally and elsewhere.
  • Tolc del Clot: A figure created in 1995 to replace an older dragon. Its name spells Clot backward and was chosen by neighborhood children.
  • Pork del Clot: Accompanied by the Tabalers del Clot and their distinctive drumming.
  • Gegants del Clot: Giant figures including Clotus and Melis, the smaller giant Martí, and a big-headed figure of Charlie Rivel.
  • Passa-t'ho bé: Leisure activities for older adults.
  • La Cruz del Sur: Shares Argentine culture through folk-dance classes.
  • Penya Barcelonista: A supporters' club for FC Barcelona.

Recent activities

The association organizes concerts, cultural visits, and gatherings. Documented events include a concert at the Santa Maria de Ponts parish with the Camerata Granados orchestra, conducted by Pau Romero Andreu and joined by nearly 60 singers from Orfeó Martinenc and Cor Diaula; a members' visit to a Mercè Rodoreda exhibition at the CCCB; and a meeting of cultural-center presidents at the Ateneu Barcelonès.

Membership

Adults and minors can join the association through its membership forms. It also publishes an event calendar and its own magazine.
