Researching republican history

Fundació Josep Irla, based in Barcelona, works in historical memory and republican thought. It combines research, publishing, and cultural and academic events.

Archives and publications

The foundation maintains a library and archive and publishes the journal Eines. Its historical studies include L’Opinió, el diari de la revolució republicana (1931–1934). It also produces the Periskopia podcast, hosted by Raül Romeva, and manages the MemòriaEsquerra.cat and MemòriaValencianista.cat websites.

Awards and grants

It annually presents the Francesc Macià Memorial awards and the Beca d’Estudis Històrics President Tarradellas. In 2026, Laia Benaiges i Ferré received the grant for a project on republican deputy Gonçal Yvars i Meseguer. At Nit Irla 2026, the foundation recognized historian Joaquim Nadal, Marta Pujol, La Bressola, and Dones de la Mar.
