About Cercle d'Artistes Sords Units (ASU)

Art in Catalan Sign Language

Cercle d’Artistes Sords Units (ASU) is a cultural association based in Barcelona’s Les Corts neighborhood. Its main work is producing art and cultural content in Catalan Sign Language (LSC), the natural language of its members.

More than four decades of work

Deaf artists founded ASU in 1974 to make audiovisual productions in LSC. Its founding members came from Cerecusor, one of Barcelona’s leading Deaf associations. Over more than 40 years, ASU has created reports, plays, series, short films, and feature films in Catalan Sign Language. Its video library is described as the country’s most significant collection of signed texts.
