About Hospital Evangèlic de Barcelona

Intermediate care in Barcelona

Hospital Evangèlic de Barcelona is an intermediate care hospital that has partnered with the public health system since 1976. Part of Grup Assistencial Evangèlic, it cares for medically fragile people with chronic conditions, rehabilitation needs, and palliative care needs.

Hospital and outpatient services

  • Inpatient care: Subacute care for medically fragile people who need a short hospital stay; a functional recovery unit offering intensive rehabilitation after an acute medical or surgical illness; palliative care focused on symptom management, comfort, and emotional and spiritual support for patients and families; and long-term care for people with disabilities and chronic conditions who need complex inpatient support.
  • Outpatient care: A therapeutic day hospital focused on independence and quality of life; an outpatient comprehensive assessment team that evaluates patients and develops individual plans; and a community frailty unit providing prompt specialized care to help prevent health setbacks and avoidable hospital admissions.

A new hospital building

In April 2024, the hospital moved from its century-old Camèlies Street facilities to a new building in Barcelona's 22@ district. The new center has more than 10,000 square meters and six inpatient floors. According to its annual report, it cared for 2,886 people in 2025. The new Community Frailty Unit was opened with the Catalan Health Institute (ICS).
