La Platjeta

A fishmonger rooted in Barceloneta

La Platjeta is an online fishmonger that began in Barcelona’s Barceloneta neighborhood. It sells fresh, frozen, and locally sourced fish and seafood, along with prepared dishes, smoked products, and preserves. The project grew out of a family with several generations in traditional fishing and operates two of its own boats, “La Ostia” and “Nus.”

How the seafood is handled

The company goes out to fish each morning and sells the catch that afternoon at auction, the fish market, or the central market, so it does not hold excess stock for the next day. It says its seafood is caught off the Catalan coast just hours before sale and offered fresh that day. Much of the selection is cleaned, filleted, and vacuum-packed, ready to cook or store.

Options include a boneless fish basket for €29.85, including VAT; a cleaned fish and seafood basket weighing 1.6 to 2 kilograms for €59.75; and a family basket weighing 2.5 to 3 kilograms for €85.75. Other examples include 100 grams of smoked cod for €9.25, a 1-kilogram John Dory for €55, 900 milliliters of fish stock for €7, a 1-kilogram lobster-style monkfish tail for €60, 1 kilogram of Bouchot mussels for €8.90, 500 grams of cod brandade croquettes for €6.55, and 500 grams of frozen crab meat for €15.95.

Delivery and payment

Home delivery is available in Barcelona city, Vallès, Maresme, Besòs, and Llobregat. Customers can pay by bank card or Bizum, and the company answers order questions through WhatsApp.

For restaurants

La Platjeta serves individual customers and also offers to supply restaurants.

Food education

The company publishes a blog with recipes and articles about maritime culture and traditional fishing. It also takes part in educational initiatives such as Cap i Cua, which offers teaching kits and educational activities.
