About Besòs Verds
A neighborhood food cooperative
Besòs Verds is an organic food cooperative formed by residents of Barcelona's Besòs neighborhood and nearby areas. It buys food directly from producers, without intermediaries, and distributes weekly boxes to members.
How the cooperative works
Each week, the cooperative delivers a box of seasonal vegetables. Members can also opt to receive fruit and eggs. Its main supplier is Tres Quarteres, which provides organic vegetables, fruit, and eggs. A basket list from October 2016 also named other sources: dried onions from Mas Serratosa in Osona and carrots from Verdulea in Vallès Oriental; bananas from Gabaceres Bio in the Canary Islands; peaches, pears, and apples from David Torrelles in Lleida; plums from Vilarnau in Lleida; and oranges from Ecoebre in Valencia.
Education and community activities
The cooperative organizes and joins educational activities about organic consumption and healthy eating, including workshops, talks at neighborhood associations, and open-house events. It also maintains a blog with recipes and notices about weekly basket deliveries.
