About Les Horteres de la Ribera
A neighborhood produce cooperative
Les Horteres de la Ribera is an agroecological food cooperative founded in March 2012 in Barcelona’s Ribera neighborhood, in the Casc Antic. It has about 17 households, or 25 to 30 people, and works with a weekly fixed-basket model.
Produce and how it works
The cooperative works with El Patufet i la Col, run by Enric and Dulu, who prepare baskets of seasonal vegetables. Members can choose a small basket for €11 with four or five items, or a large basket for €16 with six or seven. Extra items include eggs at €2 per half dozen and spelt bread. The cooperative commits to ordering 15 to 20 baskets each week.
Activities and community
Beyond basket distribution, the cooperative organizes an agroecology film forum and workdays at the garden in Taiadella, and has taken part in events such as the World March Against Monsanto. It also maintains a blog with recipes, reflections, and news about agroecology.
Where and when
Pickup takes place at the Associació de Veïns del Casc Antic (La Sosi), 27 Carrer del Rec, 08003 Barcelona. Pickup hours are Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Membership is subject to a waitlist, since the cooperative has a limit of 20 households. New members must join the neighborhood association for €15 per year to use the space.
