La Carmela Verdulera

Local produce and shared buying in El Carmel

La Carmela Verdulera is a food-buying group in Barcelona’s El Carmel neighborhood, active since 2015. It is run through assemblies, with members sharing responsibilities, and focuses on local, nearby, agroecological food.

How it works

The group distributes produce baskets with a set selection of fruits and vegetables. Members can add extra items or products from other suppliers. Orders are placed regularly with one of the producers.

Members share the group’s internal work through several committees:

• Treasury: Handles payments between basket members and producers.
• Social media: Manages email and updates the website and social channels.
• Orders: Places recurring orders with one of the producers.
• Welcome: Welcomes new basket members.
• Secretary: Keeps meeting minutes and moderates assemblies.

Where and when

Since 2025, the group has met and distributed baskets at Casal de Barri la Barraca, 107 Carrer de Llobregós. Its monthly assembly takes place there on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
