Aiguasol is an energy engineering and consulting cooperative founded in 1999. It designs spaces, processes, and systems that are efficient and comfortable while reducing environmental impact. The company describes its work as independent and grounded in scientific rigor.
Buildings, cities, and industry
Aiguasol advises on energy and indoor air for buildings, urban areas, and industry. Its work includes:
- Building energy: Nearly zero-energy buildings (NZEB), indoor environmental quality, energy modeling and monitoring, building retrofits, and environmental certification.
- Outdoor environmental quality: Air quality, energy policy, energy communities, energy-resource mapping, and environmental monitoring networks.
- District energy: District heating networks and large-scale energy generation.
- Energy management: Management systems and industrial energy use.
- Renewable energy: Solar power, bioenergy, and energy transition.
- Applied research: Solar, bioenergy, and energy-transition research and development.
Software, training, and international work
The cooperative sells and supports energy simulation tools such as TRNSYS, TESS, and TRNFLOW and offers energy courses. Its team includes more than 20 engineers, Ph.D. researchers, architects, and physicists. Aiguasol has its main office in Barcelona and another in Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, with a presence in Santiago, Chile; Lisbon; and Bogotá. Its central office supports projects in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Selected projects
Projects highlighted by the company include designing a district heating network in Olot; energy audits and improvement strategies for asphalt production; renewable energy design and implementation at Montjuïc Castle; and eeBox, an energy-management system for commercial buildings. Aiguasol has also worked on international development projects, including an integrated assessment of Granada's electrical system with the United Nations Development Programme.
