Raons Cooperativa

Urban change through participation

Raons Cooperativa is a Barcelona nonprofit cooperative focused on urban social innovation since 2009. It brings people into participatory processes to imagine, build, and transform urban environments together. Its work includes people of all ages, local residents and visitors, and private, community, and public spaces.

Services and approach

The cooperative uses collaborative methods that combine digital and in-person tools. Its approach has six parts: bringing stakeholders together and building momentum; collaboration and co-creation; coordination and ongoing support; communications strategy; data analysis and visualization; and continuous evaluation.

Projects and recognition

Since 2009, Raons has completed more than 170 projects for over 40 institutions and organizations. Its awards include the 2014 National Youth Award for Entrepreneurial Initiative, the 2019 Barcelona Educational Innovation Award for transforming the playground at Escola Dovella, and the 12th Catalonia Urban Planning Award, named for Manuel de Solà-Morales, for the Ciutat Vella Land Use Plan. Raons formally became a cooperative in 2015.

Team

The core team includes Lucia Zandigiacomi, Maria Barenys, Carlos López, Oriol Agulló, Alicia Calvo, Renata Pasero, Andrés Martínez de la Riva, Uri Josa, and Maria Vila.
