LEMUR. Urban Emergency Laboratory
An interdisciplinary Barcelona-based lab founded in 2011, using participatory design and body-centered methods to create healthier built environments and address inequality.
About LEMUR. Urban Emergency Laboratory
Designing healthier places
LEMUR (Urban Emergency Laboratory) is an interdisciplinary international lab based in Barcelona. It grew out of a 2011 network of professionals in architecture, body awareness, education, and music. The group works collaboratively to create healthier built environments, reduce inequality, and support people's well-being.
A body-centered design approach
LEMUR uses its own method, Body Driven Design (BDD), which places the body at the center of how people understand places and their transformation. Its participatory processes make users key contributors to change. The lab works at different scales and in different kinds of crisis settings, from schoolyards and neighborhoods to refugee camps and post-disaster situations.
