Montero FyE S.A. is an independent, family-owned company based in Barakaldo, Biscay, near Bilbao. It manufactures and sells industrial sealing and thermal-insulation products. Francisco Montero Loizaga began the business in 1893, giving it more than a century of experience.

Product lines and brands

The company makes and sells several product lines under its own brands:

• BELPA: Sheet and gasket materials, including compressed fiber without asbestos, expanded mineral graphite with or without metal reinforcement, expanded and modified PTFE, beater or oiled paper, mica, spiral-wound gaskets, and RTJ gaskets.
• MONTERO: Mechanical packings for pumps, valves, and mixers, made from expanded mineral graphite, carbon, PTFE, graphite-filled PTFE, aramid, kynol, and synthetic fibers; GRAFOIL graphite rings for industrial and nuclear applications; low-fugitive-emission and TA Luft solutions; valve ring sets; and pressure-seal rings.
• BELPAFLEX: Design, production, and installation of expansion joints, single- and multilayer expansion joints, insulation, blankets and bolsters, and metal expansion joints.
• MONTERO: Insulation textiles made from silica, bioceramic (soluble ceramic), glass, and high-temperature glass, as well as blankets, felts, paper, fire blankets, and screens.
• BARLAN: Insulating sheets and boards made from materials described as 100% exempt, for thermal and electrical insulation and protection from heat and fire.

The company also supplies other products for industrial sealing, insulation, and maintenance.

Markets and international reach

Montero sells in more than 50 countries and says exports account for about half of its revenue. It has customers on five continents, particularly in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. A network of specialized distributors, backed by the company’s technical support, serves end users.

The company provides sealing and thermal-insulation products for many industrial and manufacturing sectors, including engineering, equipment manufacturing, maintenance, and production:

• Petrochemical, base chemicals, and paper, including low-emission solutions certified to TA Luft and API 622.
• Power generation, including thermal, nuclear, combined-cycle, hydroelectric, solar thermal, photovoltaic, and biomass plants.
• Metals and steelmaking, including iron, aluminum, copper, and other foundries, with solutions for temperatures up to 1,500°C.
• Marine, mining, and cement.
• Aerospace, including development of high-strength materials.
• Food, water, and pharmaceuticals, with products approved for use with water and food in the European Union.

Certifications and approvals

Lloyd’s certifies Montero for manufacturing rubber, textile, and paper products under ISO 9001:2015. The company has testing equipment supporting ongoing research and development. Listed approvals include:

• Water: KTW (BELPA CSA 50, CSA 320, CSA 520 W 270, CSA 520) and WRC/WRAS (BELPA CSA 90, CSA 45, BS 6920, CSA 520, CSA 320).
• Gas: DVGW DIN 3535 (BELPA CSA 50, CSA 320, CSA 90, CSA 520).
• High temperatures: DVGW DIN 30653 and DVGW VP 401 (BELPA CSA 50, CSA 320, CSA 90).
