About Ortopedia Axis

Prosthetics and Gait Training

Ortopedia Axis, legally registered as Ortopetécnica Axis S.L., is a technical orthotics center in Badalona, Barcelona, specializing in prostheses for people with limb loss. The company works with different amputation levels, focusing on socket design, comfort, and prosthetic stability.

Specialties and Services

  • Prostheses for different amputation levels, with custom-fitted sockets.
  • Sports prostheses adapted for activities such as cycling, winter sports, motorcycling, and kitesurfing.
  • A gait-training school with physical therapists who specialize in working with amputees.
  • Treatment programs for people who have recently undergone an amputation, first-time visitors, and short refresher sessions.
  • Orthopedic and orthotic products.

Gait Training School

Axis's gait-training school includes more than 70 square meters of 4-by-4-meter terrain designed to recreate real walking conditions, rather than the flat surface typically found in testing rooms. Treatment is carried out in collaboration with the company's technicians.

Sports Prostheses and Athletes

The company has developed prostheses for elite athletes, including Spanish track champion Raquel Acinas, Paralympic cycling champion Roberto Alcaide, and snowboarder Urko Egea. In some cases, users take part in designing their own prostheses. For Roberto Alcaide, for example, Axis made a prosthesis featuring an ultralight carbon-fiber socket and an Össur LP Variflex foot.
