About Spanish Uniformed Corps of Civil Engineers
What CUICE is
The Cuerpo Uniformado de Ingenieros Civiles de España, known as CUICE, is an association founded in 2020 by three engineers. Its purpose is to recover the historical legacy of the Spanish civil engineer's uniform and regulate its present-day use, using professional dress as a visible link with the history of the field.
Historical background
The association points to a Royal Order issued by the Ministry of Public Instruction and Fine Arts on December 15, 1910. That order permitted industrial engineers to wear a uniform matching those of other civil engineers, with a distinctive emblem. CUICE treats this precedent as the historical basis for restoring the tradition.
Activities and uniforms
CUICE publishes its own bylaws and uniform regulations. It describes daily winter and summer dress, semiformal, formal and full-dress versions, together with accessories. A news blog records institutional representation, tributes and awards, including a Civil Protection COVID-19 decoration.
Contact
The association uses a web form and role-specific email addresses:
- President: presidente.cuice@gmail.com
- Secretary: secretaria.cuice@gmail.com
- Treasurer: tesorero.cuice@gmail.com
- General information and social media: redes.cuice@gmail.com
CUICE also maintains profiles on Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram.
The project is less about ordinary work clothing than ceremonial memory: a regulated uniform becomes a way to represent the history and public identity of civil engineering.
