La Griega E. Koronis S.A. is a Spanish family-owned manufacturer and wholesaler of household, cleaning, bath, personal-care, hairdressing, and hospitality products. It was founded in 1890 by Jorge Koronis, a merchant from the Greek island of Kalymnos. The company says it has operated continuously since then and is now led by the family’s fourth generation.

History and growth

The business began in Barcelona in 1890, wholesaling pottery, glassware, and sponges. In 1904, it moved its headquarters to Madrid to improve distribution. After suffering destruction during the Spanish Civil War, it was rebuilt and expanded in 1939 and 1941. Following Eutimio Koronis’s death in 1943, his widow and sons Jorge, Antonio, and Miguel took over and added cleaning and personal-care products.

Notable products include sea sponges, which the company says are selected and treated by hand, and an ostrich-feather duster made with genuine feathers from South Africa. The natural electrostatic charge of the feathers helps attract dust.

The company has two buildings in Arganda del Rey, Madrid: a 2,000-square-meter facility for production and order preparation and a 600-square-meter warehouse.
