Manufacturas Muela is a Spanish maker of handcrafted knives and pocketknives for luxury, hunting, sporting, and tactical use. Its origins date to the mid-1950s, when Eladio Muela León began making a handmade 38-piece pocketknife that became popular with German engineers at the Empetrol refinery. That first workshop had seven employees and eventually grew into the current factory in Argamasilla de Calatrava, Ciudad Real.

Production Capacity and Facilities

The company’s current facilities cover more than 5,000 square meters and use modern manufacturing and machining systems. Annual production exceeds 350,000 pieces, about 70% of which is exported to more than 50 countries across five continents. Muela describes itself as a leading name in handcrafted hunting knives in Spain and internationally.

How the Knives Are Made

The manufacturing process combines computer-assisted machinery with a substantial amount of handwork. Muela starts with high-quality martensitic steels and performs sheet cutting, machining, grinding, and thermal and surface treatments in-house. Handles are assembled by hand and, in many cases, carved by specialist craftspeople, often using carefully selected deer antler fitted at the factory. A dedicated leather shop designs, cuts, sews, and finishes sheaths for the different models. Sharpening, polishing, inspection, and packaging are also handled in-house.
